Well i'm making do with the vegetarian food right now with typically brown rice and 2 different kinds of leafy vegetables. I would like to know if there are any others i can consume tho. I do miss fried bee hoon, nasi lemak (which i think i can't have anymore), mee rebus and mee siam. Wonder if ill dare try any of these ever again

I have tried Yong tau foo and it's fine if you make the right selections. I have the curry with it. Always choose ladies fingers, broccoli, egg

I would check high your blood sugar is after the town rice - I don't eat it because it sends my blood sugar too high cheers Matt

Yes brown rice still contains a lot of carbohyrdrate - its lower GI - but you must know what your blood sugar does afterwards - if its 140 + 2 hours after eating, not good.

thank u, Admin n Matt! according to my dietician n doc, it's a matter of personal choice. food sold in the hawker centres or food courts is generally unhealthy. so they advised to choose low GI brown rice 1/2 a bowl with skinless water-boiled or steamed chicken with tomato, cucumber n pineapple slices, still can enjoy chicken rice in a healthier way.

I have switched too taking spaghetti instead of noodles or rice. My sugar does not go up even after a hearty plate?

nowadays i try to avoid any form of rice or noodle, not even brown rice. i cook my own food: just meat n veg. last night i had steamed egg with bakchor n tofu - no salt, no sauce, no oil, just a bit of pepper powder n fried onion for flavour.

Although healthy eating is easier at home, if you prefer eating out, there are healthier options at the food court/hawker centres. As Matt mentioned, Yong Tau Foo is one option (may be wise not to go for curry all the time though especially if you're trying to lose weight or have high cholesterol!). But make sure you try and stick to max 1-2 pieces of fried things, and choose more veggies + lean protein like silken tofu. Try to refrain from the sweet sauce too! Other options are brown rice chicken rice without the skin + plate of kai lan, economic mixed veg rice with 2 veggies + 1 lean protein, thunder tea rice, soup noodles like sliced fish beehoon or tom yum beehoon (ask for plenty of veggies and less noodles!), or 1 small piece chappati/thosai with a side of veggies + chicken tikka. Take just 1/2 bowl rice/noodles if you find it's too big a portion (as it often is). Popiah or soon kueh are high-fibre options too (but please hold back on the sweet sauce!). If you've already eaten plenty of carbs for your meals and are looking for a low-carb snack to fill up on, you can try no-sugar soymilk/tauhway or no-sugar chin chow (both are just ~0-3% carbs!). Or perhaps some jambu or pomelo (1 small piece of each containing just 2g carbs).

It's easier to browse for products suitable for you and they deliver straight to your doorstep so it's really fuss-free!
