Hi all! Happy to have stumbled upon a local diabetes forum but a little dismay to see the lack of postings and participation. Perhaps its a lack of awareness and most diagnosed with diabetics just go on with their life and take metformin religiously to keep their blood glucose in range.
I was diagnosed back in earky Dec 2016 with A1C 8.6% and FBGL of 9.5
Polyclinic doctor put me on Metformin 250mg and Atorvastation 10mg.
In first week of Jan this year, just a little under 1 month from my initial diagnosis, I went to a local GP for a blood test to check my levels. A1c dropped to 7.5%, FBGL 4.4 and my LDL dropped 50%!
I did not take a single pill of the medication prescribed to me.
I COMPLETELY ELIMINATED starch and sugar from my diet. I just ate loads of meat (with fats) and vegetables and drink plenty of water.
Not only my blood glucose and cholestrol went down, my weight went down by 6kg in barely a month.
Yes, LCHF diet works!
Take ownership of your own health and get a glucometer to test, test, test! I test 6 times a day, before and after meal and i keep a diary of what i eat. I know what food to avoid and what food i can take w/o worry. Looking forward to my next blood test result in a month's time. Meanwhile, i am still collecting the medication given to me as a souvenier and perhaps will give it to the doctors as a Xmas present end of this year!
